I can do a demo of the newest release of elementary - 5.0 juno for the November meeting if there is interest.

Anybody else have something they want to do?

I would be interested in the presentation on the Elementary distro.

At this time of the year, however, the weather will need to be clear, for my drive in from Lindsay.

It was also asked to have a how to presentation for home based networking, router configuration etc. Maybe a mix of the two? How to connect to wifi / change passwords and update SSID's using Elementary linux? that way I won't be tempted to blaze through the command line for everything? SMB shares and DNS / DHCP. Maybe even port forwarding for those of us that run servers?
Arch, Windows, Ubuntu, MacOS. In that order. (Definitely 08/2024)

There's enough in there for a few presentations. Are you saying you would do the networking stuff or you want me to?

At the last meeting I had offered to do the networking stuff, I would be running elementary from a VM rather than from physical hardware so my options for wireless are limited. #surfaceproblems

We can chat over it if you like I'm also open to an Elemetary demo :)

I'd be surprised if there was anybody that didn't know how to connect to wifi in the club but I can show that part or anything else you can't do on your Surface because of virtual machine limitations.

It was more how to configure routers, setup secure wifi, defining the difference between the encryption types, setting up MAC filtering (how to find a MAC address on devices) etc.

We could answer the age old question, what is this dns stuff anyway, how does network sharing actually work. Just some thoughts.

I had a tooth pulled a couple of days ago and I still have some swelling so I don't think I'll be able to prepare anything on networking. But you're welcome to use my laptop if you'd like to talk about it. I can even install a different distro alongside elementary if you prefer. I'll email you my intro now.
