Linux Mint 18.3 was released yesterday. So far, it's just the Cinnamon and MATE editions but KDE and Xfce will be coming later this year (assuming December, I guess). I haven't upgraded yet but will I will be shortly. However, remember you don't have to upgrade. All 18.x releases are LTS and will continue to have updates until April 2021. But if you want to, they have a guide to walk you through it.

You beat me to the post, but I tried and upgrade and was successful. This is on my problematic 2015 iMac. I first installed 18.2 Cinnamon on the spinning HD and then I upgraded. I didn't change the kernel before or after. It went well, and it actually feels faster than 18.2.

I did it a little while after that post and it went fine. Quick and easy and I like the little upgrade wizard. I started using Timeshift after reading about it. I haven't fully tested it yet, that is, doing a backup, a wipe and then reinstall, but its inclusion in 18.3 is a great idea if it works as well as they say.

Didn't realize until recently that the upgrade re-organized (unorganized, in my mind) the icons on my desktop. And I had to upgrade a couple of Cinnamon extensions. Wasn't even aware of that but it did mention it in the install release notes.

I'm going to presenting LM 18.3 Cinnamon at meeting on Monday. Haven't time to research grub/kernel parameters so I'll do that another time.
