Host-based RAID: Why is Linux the least-elegant solution?

Host-based RAID: Why is Linux the least-elegant solution?

Our president, Bob Foley, asks the question: "Why is it so difficult to wrestle Linux into doing the same simple RAID functionality that other Operating Systems (OSs) do much more simply and elegantly?" As many of you know, I'm a big-time promoter of Linux over its alternatives, but, from time to time, I *do* find aspects of Linux that seem to break the "a better way, collectively" foundations upon which Linux is and has been built. I would rather Linux never suffer a black eye, but, hey, I calls 'em like I sees 'em..." If time permits, we may have an additonal ad-hoc presentation from the floor.

Date: Monday, November 6, 2017 - 7 PM
Location: Applewood Manor
1500 Lansdowne Street West, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
Parking is on the east (right) side. Entrance is at the front of the building. From the front, go down the hall to the right, and enter the last door on the left.

The raffle has been discontinued. However, you can still get a free book of your choice from O'Reilly by writing a short review afterward. Use the contact form if you'd like to do that.

Membership, although voluntary, is encouraged. Membership fees cover our room rental costs and any surplus is used to treat members during the Christmas Pizza party. A membership is only $25 a year, a fee that hasn't changed since 2000. You can pay via cheque, cash or Paypal. Membership also gives you the opportunity to review Linux-related or other computer books, and bragging rights.

We have a Linux magazine swap at each meeting. Bring in recent Linux magazines (within the last year) to trade with or give to other members.

After the meeting, everyone is invited to Tim Horton's on MONAGHAN ROAD (just a stone's throw north of Lansdowne). They have free wireless along with their treats and refreshments.

There is a PLUG MUG THIS THURSDAY, November 9, 2017 at the Whistlestop Cafe in downtown Peterborough. This is a tryout to see what members think of Thursdays and Whistlestop. Full address details and signup list can be found here.
