Distros hiding that they're based on Linux

How come so many distros don't mention that they're based on Linux?

If every distro can't at least have Linux in their name, you'd think they'd mention it on their main page but lots don't. Examples, Ubuntu (and it's flavours), Debian (was surprised at that one, no longer called Debian GNU/Linux), and Fedora. OpenSUSE does mention using Linux on their page, and a few distros put it right in their name like MX Linux, Arch Linux, Slackware Linux, and Linux Mint. Sure, we know the distros that don't mention they're using Linux do, but how many beginners do?
Try something. If your favorite distro doesn't have "Linux" in its name, go to the main page for it and press Ctrl+F and do a search for "Linux" on their main page.
Does it bother you that distros don't mention Linux in their name or on their website? What do you think?

No, it doesn't bother me too much. Does Apple include the name of the underlying system? I ask that because I know almost nothing about Apple. If a product gets to be know by its own name, it's in a much better position for selling I would think. Buick GM, Tide PG, Samsung Tablet Android or iPhone Apple have unnecessary words attached. Buick, Tide, Samsung Tablet, and iPhone are better names. This is how they have become know.

Maybe some names in the Linux world are so well know that they have a presence that allows them to ignore the underlying structure, like transmissions and cooling systems in cars. We buy a Toyota that will pull our trailer. Done. The rest I don't think about very much.

It could be a good sign Jason, that the brand is 'selling', rather than the technology. Maybe it's a sign of maturity.

By the way, Marilyn and I used free time we had today to ride from Jackson Park to Ackison road and back. Flowers, the bridges, the rapids, a turtle, the tunnel of trees the path goes through - beautiful. We had lots of time because I didn't install Gentoo.

Well, it's not just the being in the name that I asked about. I mentioned the website, too. Many websites with Linux distros don't even mention Linux.

Apple isn't the name of the OS, btw. It's iOS. But you admitted to knowing almost nothing about Apple so that's okay,  While not in the name, if you check into buying a device they will tell you that it's using iOS or Android and usually the version number, too, right on the website.

I kind of find it a shame that Linux has been forgotten by so many distros.
