I have a 2019 Intel iMac. It is set up as a dual boot - Ubuntu 24.04 and MacOS. I mostly run Ubuntu but I occasionally need to boot into the Mac OS for something. Is it possible to virualize the Mac OS on Ubuntu with UTM and run the Mac at near-native speed? That would be more convenient than dual booting.

I meant to say if Bill would retain his 2nd position, not 3rd. Sorry for getting your hopes up, Fox. However, you have narrowed the lead. This contest is as exciting as Trump vs. Harris minus the feeling of existential dread. Watching the debate tonight, at least as long as I can stomach listening to the wannabe dictator.

Sure, I'd love to see that. Others might, too. I've been taking a couple of courses related to data analysis. Making dashboards is fun!

Necro bump, old school forum slang for commenting on an old and generally considered dead post.

Also seemed relevant because it seems I have magically risen from digital silence.

The entire industry has turned on it's head and is now "eeek Vmware" and running off to live in Norway themselves.

Homelab is primarily proxmox, or hyper-v, or straight KVM enabled by virt-manager under linux. Even virtualization on mac silicon is powered by KVM code. I use UTM.

Links as follows
Hyper-V windows 11 -- https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/educator-developer-blog/step-by-step-enabling-hyper-v-for-use-on-windows-11/ba-p/3745905
Proxmox - https://www.proxmox.com/en/

I am as we speak installing a legacy Centos 7 image in Hyper-v because I have a code migration project that I am working on.

I should add that ethernet is recognized by the Network Manager and I can even ping it. But it won't connect to the internet. So what I did tonight is to restore the Timeshift version right after I upgraded to 21.3, and all works as it should. Except that when I went to install some updates, it wouldn't install them because there was a problem with the Python 3 post-install program that must have been upgraded when I went from 21.2 to 21.3. Once I fixed that, I could do those upgrades. I'm now thinking that this caused the problem when I went to upgrade again. So I will try to upgrade once more to version 22, but not until next week when I have the time.

See the image below (click to enlarge).

Will Bill keep his 2nd place position this time next week?

Keep watching for the latest updates.

I have Ubuntu (24.04) installed on this iMac. No problems with it. With regard to the TP Powerline, I don't have a specific driver for it. I used the term, plug-in to refer to how the Powerline works. You plug it into a wall socket. You can then plug an ethernet cable into the Powerline and into the computer, and the computer sees it as an ethernet connection. According to a Digital Trends article, "Powerline networking is a technology that sits between wired and wireless. Rather than shoot network data into the air or through cables draped along baseboards, it uses the existing electrical wiring in a home or office. It also supports the longest distance of the three, though performance heavily depends on the overall electrical wiring and devices pulling power." The reason I use it is that Ubuntu (or any Linux I have tried) doesn't detect the internal wifi of this particular Mac and I have not been able to find a driver for it. But the Powerline works perfectly, at least with Ubuntu and any Mint version I have tried up until the Mint 22 upgrade. By the way, Powerline does work with the Mint 22 install USB drive, so the problem must be related to the upgrade itself.

Quote from: buster on September 01, 2024, 07:29:50 PMPopular vote doesn't matter. It's their election procedure, designed to protect the powers of the individual states.

It was designed because the constitutional framers didn't think ordinary people should be able to choose the President. The electoral vote system was created as an alternative to that (I took American history). The result is the same, but the impetus is different. The Senate, however, was to give smaller states more power than their population would suggest. So little Rhode Island has as much power in the Senate as mighty California.

Here's an enlightening video (11 minutes) about how Harris is increasing the margin with certain groups of voters and taking Republican support. She was behind in Latino votes by double digits and now she's ahead by double digits. She had a ~40 advantage with Black voters, now it's almost 80%! And she's gaining ground with young voters. Yes, I know you'll say they don't vote much. 50% of young voters do vote. They also discuss with some pollsters what it all means.

" the site suggests they're "too close to call". That's unsettling. "

'Unsettling' is a very moderate word. I'm as close to ninety as I am to eighty, so I wont be around to watch the conflagration. You youngsters will live in the new world. But 'unsettling' doesn't seem to suit.

A close friend said to me about half a century ago. "You'd be surprised, Harry, how many people are just plain stupid." I don't have trouble really with a Republican being elected, though I tend to lean left. I have trouble with having Trump as the leader of the most powerful nation on the planet.

It's going to be close.

We have an American friend who is packed and ready to come to live with us. He is beyond upset.
