This is one of many videos by a YouTuber posting videos of him calling up bogus Tech support companies, that come up when you do a Google search for Tech support of a printer company, computer company, etc.

Be sure to check out this guy's other videos.  They are a real eye opener and quite scary, especially for all the senior citizens that are being scammed.

Thanks for the Link to the article, Tom.

Maybe the Chinese will come up with their version of Facebook and sink Facebook. Just like they have very recently done with the free but very highly regarded AI app/program, DeepSeek, that is sinking the stock value of all the other big name AI apps. :-)

spool adapter.jpg

I made the top one first.  It's made up of 8 pieces...
  • 5/16" bolt with 1/2" head cut off,
  • nut and rubber washer for centering (the two ends have different diameter), and
  • bolt, socket, and hex tail are soldered together.

Then, I made something better, bottom one.  It's just 3 pieces...
  • 7/16" bolt with countersink head, and
  • bolt and hex tail are soldered.
Its larger diameter made it self-centering, so eliminating the need for spacers and washers.  Drilling a hole in the bolt head was challenging.  I couldn't keep my cordless drill straight (I don't have a drill press), so the hole ended up too loose and off-axis for compression fit.  I had to solder the hex shaft.

So my psuedo-daughter-in-law found and read The Really Unpleasant Computer Story. She did a search in Bing and there it was. She enjoyed it very much and added, "I can see why it's so popular."

But she also added something I should have noted.

She said that the additions to the story with comments by other members pushed it over the top, and on a re-read I can see that this is true. So I'd like to thank these people for making this thread better and the most viewed on our site with over 67,000 visits.

Very good William, now your are ready for the grass trimming season. :-)

How about posting some photos of this "spool adaptor" so we can see what you have made?

Found a solution.  A thick layer of "5 minute" epoxy glue (from Dollarama).  It hasn't cracked yet.
