In VMWare, I installed Linux Q4OS for old times sake and selected the Trinity Desktop. And lo and behold, after the tiny install, there was a handy list of the most popular software to be added after the install, and near the top was Amarok!

I finally found the software needed to enable drag and drop from Win10 to Linux OS, moved across some albums, and played music. So the software is back in development and should show in many Linux varieties. Very comfortable to use.

The original install of Q4OS is pretty quick, but you do have to click some things. Solid and old fashioned. Using Trinity is easy to catch on to because the design is ancient. Comfortable and fast.

I will note that the first thing I did, as Fox does too, is added Synaptic.

Good so far.

Good Evening Folks!

I am currently looking for generous donations of used Pis for our local Amateur Radio Club members who may be unable to purchase one.

These will be used in the near future for some educational projects. Please let me know if this sounds like something you are able to help with.

Marilyn's computer will not upgrade to win 11 because she's using Linux Mint.

My super duper basement junk-room desktop computer runs Win 11.

My ancient 3 core AMD TV computer will live out it's life running Win 10 in a case I bought in 2002.

My everyday, and favorite, Acer laptop, will live out its life running Win 10.

Time is accelerating its speed. I remember when these machines were young. I think Time has switched to Fibre.

This is an insert into this thread because of an unusual event taking place as I type.

The 100,000 views barrier is going to be broken this evening by a dark horse breaking into the lead.

The "Fallout from Covid 19" has surged from behind out of nowhere, well ahead of "The Really Unpleasant Computer Problem", which should reach the magic number about next midweek.

Strange things happening on the Peterborough Linux site.

General Discussion / Windows 10 support ends in Oct...

This video explains what is happening and your options. No surprise, one of them is Linux.

My desktop is fully compatible with Windows 11 (i.e. no workarounds necessary), and I already have Windows 11 installed on it. My wife's PC uses Windows 11, but with a workaround. The CPU isn't officially supported. Only time will tell whether or not Microsoft will continue allowing this mode.

Are you using Windows 10, even if it's not your main OS? Don't worry, I won't judge. Do you have to support Windows 10 computers in your household or with family? Or are you using Windows 11 already? And if so, is it officially supported? Or are you using a workaround? Comment back and let us know.

Quote from: buster on May 03, 2025, 11:32:52 AMIf the NDP had been led in this election by Tommy Douglas or Jack Layton, rather than Jagmeet Singh, I think election day would have gone very differently.

The NDP may have won more seats, but it's hard to argue that strategic voting didn't have a heavy hand in this election's outcome.

QuoteA note of interest: Marilyn and I met and chatted with Timmy Douglas during intermission at a play in Ottawa. He had come to see his actress daughter perform. It was something to shake hands with such a great Canadian.

I'm jealous. I would have loved to have met him, although it may have been before my time. It's 'Tommy', not 'Timmy' unless that was just a typo. If so, my bad.

QuoteAnd an example of proportional representation that you and I would both agree is too extreme takes place in Israel. No one votes for a person. You only vote for a party, and the party supplies the party members. Governments seldom go full term without an election, and no party has ever had a majority. Too extreme.

Absolutely. That form of it shouldn't be used anywhere, but especially there. Everything is too partisan. Their situation plays a huge role there. I don't know if any party would have a majority there even under FPTP.

         94,135

That's the number of views for the unpleasant computer story, which is a totally unrealistic number. That's almost a thousand a day.

And it's only in second place behind a forum started by BusterE, "The Fallout from Covid 19", which is rocketing ahead for some reason. I read the Covid thread this morning, and it is a good look back at the start of the whole thing. It ran for about a month with quite a few ideas, and Jason added a new post in March I believe.

Still, the popularity of both is unexpected.

Maybe reality has no part to play in the virtual world. I still suspect aliens.

Good arguments Jason. But I'm not sure the whole problem for the NDP has been a lack of proportional representation. Historically the NDP has got a lot done in Canada without holding office or having huge numbers of seats.

Sometimes people choose a party not because of policies exactly, but because of the image portrayed by the leader. Image counts, and Canadians are no different than other nations with unconscious biases. If the NDP had been led in this election by Tommy Douglas or Jack Layton, rather than Jagmeet Singh, I think election day would have gone very differently. Also I think the Conservatives didn't quite make it because of their attack dog leader. He didn't seem to be a statesman.

Yes, near the end of the month I will suggest an afternoon time and date, to meet up for a coffee get together. :-)
