Seeings as we have a holiday weekend, I think it would be best to move the PLUG meeting to another week if that is okay with everyone. More than happy to take suggestions for another night and we can make it work. I'll be in and out of town all next week so possibly the 10th or after for me is best.
I am more than happy to take suggestions for meeting topics for our first meeting of the year, I'll also be sending out a facebook notice and mailing list update.
If there are no takers I would be happy to demo build in virtualization using QEMU / KVM And one of my patented bottom up installs from an Ubuntu mini ISO coming in a whopping 64mb in size.
I hope you have all had a wonderful summer (ITS NOT OVER YET!!!!).
That's fine by me. Not sure if I will be able to make September meeting but I will make sure payment gets to Laurie.
Jason let it be known that I am damn proud of what you have accomplished and frankly the meeting will be missing a lot if you can't make it. :) either way thank you!
I agree with Brian (on both changing the meeting date and Jason's contributions). Personally, I would be happy to keep the meetings on Mondays and just move this one back a week, but I'm flexible.
As far as topics go, the virtualization idea is more interesting than anything I can come up with. And if Harry is interested and available, he could perhaps do a second half on his virtualization experiences with the different distros he tried. (As I recall, he uses VMware Player, which could be contrasted with QEMU/KVM. We have had virtualization demoed with VirtualBox in the past, but I don't recall ever having a PLUG meeting featuring any other virtualization software.
Thanks guys!
Unless things have changed, Mondays were the only nights that Applewood had free which is why it's never moved. But you can certainly check with Laurie if you guys want to have a different night but don't do it just for me especially since I may or may not be elected.
Pushing this 1 a week is probably a good idea..
Unfortunately I won't be able to make the PLUG meeting.
I have an ongoing medical issue and they have just booked me into ptbo hospital for this Sunday, for another medical procedure.
Bill
Sorry to hear that, Bill! I hope it's not too serious.
Me too, Bill; hope all is well.
Regarding the meeting, do we have a date yet? I haven't seen anything definite posted.
Yep, City Council meeting this Monday night so I won't be able to make it either. But please don't let that stop you guys.
Sorry Bill.
So is there a meeting on Monday????
I hate to add to the complication, but I won't be able to attend either if it's this coming Monday.
There most certainly can be a meeting On Monday I have to confirm if we still have the room at Applewood tomorrow as I have not heard back.
Bill I hope that all is well and I am sure everyone here is sending love and good vibes your way.
Otherwise if not Applewood we'll just change this to a MUG and meet up at the Monaghan Timmies.
Hi all. Been following the posts and we were planning on coming this evening. Will follow the discussion here as to where the gathering will be, but we will be there.
Hope all is well, Bill.
Just called and left another message / sent off a follow up email I'll let you folks here know what is going on and then once confirmed update facebook / mailing list.
They are booked every second Monday of the month, so the dates we have available are the 24th and October the 15th.
As it stands right now we'll be having a MUG tonight at 898 Monaghan Rd, Peterborough, ON K9J 5K4
I'll be there at around 8:30 tonight for those who wish to join.
HI. Kal and I are in town and want to know where and when the meeting is. I will monitor this site as we are not on social sites.
Glen, VE3LIZ from Oshawa.
Hi Brian. Just saw you last post and we are now at the coffee shop. See all who shows up.
Glen.
In the Olden days, we had the General Meeting on the first Monday of every month regardless of whether it was a holiday or not. It was simpler that way.

September 17th isn't available? Regarding October, we've previously booked with Laurie for the 1st. I'll send you the email, Brian.
I kind of agree with Paul here. Just have the meeting the first Monday every month regardless of holiday. If people can't make it, that's fine but we usually have had lots that do, even on holidays. Or find another date (like third Monday or whatever) but keep it consistent.
Also, though it's more work setting up, Laurie has said we can always meet in the library as I don't think she schedules anything in there. In fact, in October we will have to do that.
So do we have a PLUG meeting this Monday or not? I can come if it's this week or any Monday in September.
I do not have Applewood booked for any time in September, and I think there is a general consensus that the first Monday of the month Rain or shine is the way to go, Or at least so is the belief I have seen here in the forums and in the last MUG.
As an alternative I'll throw together the slides I had prepared and the code snippets for using KVM for virtualization (rather than virtualbox or vmware player) I currently use KVM to virualize a server 2016 server on Ubuntu 18.04. Even Tux can have a little mud on his face right?
I'm not really clear on what you're saying. Does that mean we aren't having a meeting on Monday, Septemeber 17? It's really up to you.
Perhaps we should make a Fresh Start with a general meetings on October 1st (Only 2 weeks away). In the meantime, someone could make a MUG if they wished.

At this point, probably a good idea. There isn't really enough time to get word out for tonight. And no point having it a week before the next meeting.
Is anyone interested in meeting up for a PLUG Mug, at Tim Hortons, Monaghan rd, this evening?
I could be there around 7 pm.

I have a Council meeting at 5:30 pm. It's like staff is trying to rush out as many decisions as possible before the new council takes over! Second meeting in two weeks. But hoping it will finish up soon enough I can get there for just after 8 pm.
i'm having a boot challenge with a toshiba satellite that i'd like to bring to the MUG tonight...
*no splash screen to access boot menu/reset boot sequence
it recognizes bootable usb flashdrive with multiboot but can't use up/down keys to select distros so it loops trying to load hdd as default ;it will boot usb flash live session with single distro but when i go to install the distro the installer crashes; doesn't recognize optical bootable disk either.
read about possible 'fast boot' being enabled thus no splash screen, tried power button fix, no beeps. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006610/mini-pcs.html
similar to Jason i could be there shortly after 8pm
If you don't get help for it, tonight, post this in the support section. Try pushing F12 repeatedly to see if you get a boot menu and option to go into setup from there. The only Fast Boot I was familiar with until now was the one in Windows 10 but it doesn't cause problems booting but it can make it impossible to "see" the Windows drive(s) from inside Linux until it's disabled.
Ok, Dougal, if you are coming this evening at 8 pm, i will make sure i am there, at Timmy s.
Bill
ok Bill, I'll see you there..i'll bring my 'challenge' ....
Sorry that I didn't make it guys. I've had mouth pain and it was particularly bad in later afternoon so I slept it off. I don't think it's tooth-related but it could be so I'm seeing the dentist tomorrow (Tuesday) if they can fit me in.
OK Jason, hopefully you will get feeling better, tomorrow.
We had a good get together at Tim Hortons, last evening. There was Dougal, BrainP and myself.
BrianP thinks the keyboard keys on Dougal's notebook computer, are not working properly and that maybe he should try and plug in a usb keyboard, to try and get the computer to boot to the BIOS.
The HDD is suspect as well.
