Title: Blackberry - A good movie about a Canadian smartphone company
Post by: ssfc72 on May 23, 2023, 05:51:32 AM
I saw this movie at the Peterborough movie theatre, the other day.
It is rated at 98% on the Rotten Tomatoes movie review site.

It is a fictionalised movie about a real Waterloo, Ontario company, RIM (Research In Motion) that once had a 43% share of the smartphone market.

'BlackBerry' tells the story of Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, the two men that charted the course of the spectacular rise and catastrophic demise of the world's first smartphone.

A trailer of the movie is here:

The movie was based on a book titled, Losing The Signal.

The book is carried by the Peterborough Library.

The book is also available for reading at, archive.org,  you can download the book for reading for about 14 days but you need to have Adobe Digital Editions software installed. This software is only for the Windows OS, but I was able to get it to work with WINE, on my Mint Distro.

Thanks for the info, Bill. Btw, can you see the "likes" you get on your messages? I found when I logged in, I couldn't see them but wasn't sure if was just an issue with me or everyone.

Hi Jason, if you mean Views, yes I see them when I am logged in or not.

Og, ok I see the Like icon, now, in the message.  Yes, I see the Like, when I am logged in.

Thanks, Bill. What I meant was if you could see the number of 'likes' you've received. I clicked 'Like' on your post so I wondered if you could see that.

The 'Like' button is a new feature in SMF and I thought it'd be a nice boost for people who post to know that someone saw or enjoyed their post even if they didn't have anything thoughtful to say. I posted about the new feature elsewhere - I hope members saw it or the 'Unread Posts" feature isn't working very well! :D

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, that isn't what I meant. I know you can click 'Like' on posts by clicking on the icon. But do you see anywhere on your original post that says how many likes you have? I clicked on your original post on this thread.

For example, if Fox, Buster and I clicked like on your original post, I'd expect it to say 'Liked by 3 people' or '3 Likes" or something similar. With Facebook, you click on the thumbs-up for giving a 'like' (although there are different types of likes now) and it works the same way with other social media. But if your post is 'liked', even by just one person, it shows a number on or beside the button. But I'm guessing if it was there, you'd be seeing it. I don't see how many you got, just that I clicked it once, but thought it might only show the person who made the post.

I can't find a setting that does anything related to it other than to enable the function. Maybe somebody could like one of my posts and I'll check to see if anything new is shown. This one will do.  :)

If anyone missed the post regarding the new 'Like' Feature, you can find it here (https://plugintolinux.ca/forum/index.php/topic,1796.0.html). It's from a month ago. Feel free to comment there if you find it useful or interesting. I know some here dislike social media but who doesn't like to know their posts are liked?

Here's a bit of a screenshot that shows what I mean. See the highlighted portion of the attachment. I have a regular account in addition to the admin account which I logged into to view this.

I can see the number of 'likes' you have for a post. But can you?

No, it doesn't show me the number of Likes.
