Such powerful incantations are usually reserved for only those with sufficient experience in the geek arts. Remember that with great power, comes great responsibility, Bill, and use this power wisely. Black hats often use such skill to break into places they shouldn't. But I know that you would never misuse such knowledge.

In any case, it can be quite handy at times. Especially for those internet providers that evilly lock their modems to the first device (i.e. MAC address) that it connects to. Not sure if anybody does that anymore, at least in Canada. You can also change it on the router, for that very reason.

I'm a bit ashamed that they didn't reference how to do it on Linux but the ChromeOS instructions should work fine for that.
