Title: Cell phone SS7 security issue, on Canadian telecoms
Post by: ssfc72 on November 23, 2017, 04:54:01 AM
A very informative article, from the CBC website, about how hackers can listen to your phone calls, track your location, divert your voice mail, etc, just by knowing your cell phone number.

It is a problem with the SS7 protocol, which is not very secure on Canadian cellphone carriers.

You beat me to it, Bill. I was just about to post this. Pretty disturbing stuff. Especially the comment that one security researcher makes about how Canada's telcos have only 10% of the security they should. European countries and the US are already onto this stuff. I honestly think that is an area where the government needs to step in and force the telcos to bring them up to the standard the Europeans have.
