General Discussion / Prescription eyeglasses online
Last post by ssfc72 - Today at 06:06:05 AM
For many years now I have bought my prescription eyeglasses from online stores because the cost was significantly less and I have had very good results.

clearly.ca   was my main store but sometimes I wasn't able to find the style of eyeglass frame that I was looking for.

I also have had good results with glassesusa.com    They have the rimless titanium frames that I like.
Their pricing is in USD

I have just got bought a pair of presciption glasses from ca.goggles4u.com
BrianP from our PLUG group had good results from them and they are by far the least expensive store.

They didn't have any rimless frames that I prefer but I did select a halfrim eyeglass with titanium frames.
So with progressive lens, extra thin and scratch resistant coating the total cost of the prescription glasses, including taxes was $68 CDN. Mailed to me in 16 days, from the day I ordered. The normal price of the glasses was $130 but I got discounts that lowered the price.

Thanks BrianP for sharing your information about this eyeglass online store.

Hi William.

I normally use StudioTax as a double check, to see if the tax programs agree with each other.
StudioTax is a Windows OS program but I think I was able to get it running under the Linux OS using Wine.

Quote from: ssfc72 on April 30, 2024, 07:08:16 AMI finally got my Income Tax done and Efiled, using MyTaxExpress.
I had a little difficulty with the Efile Access Code not being valid. I thought the Efile Code that was input by my MyTaxExpress program was correct but I kept getting an invalid Code from Revenue Canada, when I tried to file the Return.
I had to log into my CRA account and get the Efile Code from there, and then my Return was accepted.
I think I had this same issue with last years Return using MyTaxExpress.

I then got an email saying that CRA had issued a Notice of Assessment. Luckily I again logged into my CRA account and I found that the NOA was for a few dollars more than what MyTaxExpress had calculated. So I had to pay CRA the few extra dollars.
I think I may have had this same issue last year, as well.

What other tax program have you tried before?  I've been using SimpleTax (web based), and it always matches Notice of Assessment.

So, I first tried to install LocalSend by downloading and running the appimage file. That didn't appear to install the program, even though I made the appimage file executible.

I then tried the deb file. Again that did not seem to bring up a working program.

Then I tried the FlatHub install, using the commands on the LocalSend website and that did bring up a working install of LocalSend, on my Mint Distro. :-)

Thanks William, for the info about the command line method.

For clarity, The limit is only for sending texts, Bill. I don't think there is any limitation on receiving them which is important for those accounts using SMS as a 2FA method.

My method with Windows and Linux is a simple network share. I managed years ago to get Mint to see my Windows computers and I was even able to drop shortcuts on the desktop. It's possible for Windows to see Linux computers, but I was never successful in doing this. Going both ways is not necessary. From a Linux OS you can reach into a Win OS and take what you need.

My phone and tablet are not connected wirelessly. If I wish to move say an ebook, music or pictures, I use a cable. So I can get from anything to anything. But it's not often I need to cable.
