General Discussion / Re: The Really Unpleasant Comp...

Into the final hours. I predict tomorrow morning. 98 views to go.

I feel sometimes a bit pathetic waiting for something that is only a number. But I guess I should embrace it because it's my number and my story. But it isn't War and Peace by Tolstoy. But then the story had no editor or AI I suppose. It is totally my story with funny interjections by club members.

The future of writing is problematic to me. AI, I think, will prove to be the enemy in the future of a society which judges success with dollar signs. Individual uniqueness and quality will come second to sales.

I use the Brave browser and it is set to clear all cookies and data when the browser is closed down.
On the rare occasion that I go to my Facebook page, I manually clear all the browser cookies before I bring up Facebook and after exiting Facebook I again clear all the browser cookies and data.

Quote from: buster on April 21, 2020, 01:22:11 PMTexas is a weird place. Once we've settled this, the article about Texas opening for business wont seem so strange. And the quote that there are some things more important than living might not surprise you.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/texas-dan-patrick-coronavirus-economy-170723539.html

I was viewing this article again. At the time it was written, there were 543 confirmed deaths from COVID in the US. We all know that after a year, the US had over a million deaths after all the red states put the economy ahead of lives. Suffice it to say that the article didn't age well. Does he feel the same way, I wonder?

General Discussion / 25 million views in 2024!
Last post by Jason - March 23, 2025, 12:39:44 AM
I'm not sure how it happened but I still remember getting excited when PLUG went to a million views one one year. Well, last year it was 25 MILLION! 25,017,203 views to be exact, but who's counting? :)

And we're to 7.5 million views with a week to go before the end of the first quarter. If that continues, we'll have over 30 million views.

And yes, I know perfectly well, those aren't all people, lots of spam and search engine bots, I'm sure. But don't take away my tiny bit of joy.

Well done! You went from number #8 a year ago to #1. 243 to go as I write this. Every few minutes, it jumps by 1 or 2 and it's not me, I swear!

Quote from: Scott on March 21, 2025, 08:36:55 PMI keep refreshing hoping to be number 75k.

Hopefully, that doesn't work. I tried it just now and it didn't change when I did it (logged in). I think it sets a cookie so it can identify you. It changed, but that was before I refreshed a view. It went up by 3. Was that you, Bill?

I remember you once mentioned that you clear cookies after exiting the browser. So it could be fouling up our stats. ;D

As I write this, it's now 298 views to go. I don't think there are many readers in the USA because Mr Bully put a tariff on computer repair stories crossing the border. Many of the big number jumps occur in the wee hours, so maybe those readers are on the other side of the world.

This will be read only by those who check the latest posts in our apparently moribund site, but it's important to me as I drift towards eternal nothingness.
