Trying to help out Bob, here. Does anyone have anything they'd like to present at the December meeting? Presentations don't have to be long affairs, even a 10-minute presentation on a program you like, a distro you tried out recently (or have been using for some time), or some new piece of hardware can be cool. Certainly, other ideas not listed are possible, too.
If you don't have an idea of something you can present, what would you like to know about Linux? Is there something you've never understood or would like to understand better? Any programming languages that you might like to see a talk on? Let us know!
I could give a very brief talk about using changing UUID after cloning with Clonezilla. It's a problem I ran into twice and you have to match what's in the /etc/fstab with your UUID changes to avoid problems if the clone and original are running at the same time.
I wish I could give a good talk on grub boot options because they have affected me a lot. I have tried different ones hit or miss, but don't know enough about them to talk on it intelligently. If anyone in the club can, that would be great.
Thanks, Mike. I'm hoping Bob drops by and reads these suggestions but if he doesn't, just be prepared :) Do you mean kernel parameters like nomodeset and noinitrd?
I'm trying to think of something to do, too. I might be able to do something on grub but would have to do some research myself.

That's exactly what I mean. I have encountered websites with listings of grub codes; I could email them to you if you like. I tried a bunch of them in trying to make my 2015 iMac boot without minutes of delay, but I don't understand what most of them do. I think that even a basic review of the grub entries for distros like Ubuntu, Debian and Mint would be useful to a lot of us, if you have the time to research this.
I'll look into it. No promises, though.
Thank you, Jason, for the very able assist. FYI, I've implemented a "no antenna work below 4°C" rule so that will help. Oh, and, HELP! We're going to have to sit down and work through that list again... It means coffee & scrumptious donuts at the least!
Sure, Bob, anytime.
I'm still willing to make a brief presentation focused on UUID, but I would expand it to cover, not only clones, but also the grub menu. I ran into something recently that relates to this, where a newly installed distro somehow messed up on the UUID codes it inserted into the grub options. The result: a booting sequence that takes 2 minutes instead of 30 seconds. I think this can happen to anyone, and I would explain how you check the UUID's of your partitions against those in the grub menu.
I'm hoping to make it out to this one.... regardless of presentation to gift off some hardware.
Lots of items left (check the general chat for a complete list).
That'd be useful, Mike! And hope you can make it, Glen!
Due to the Holiday Season will this be a "Special" meeting in any way like the June meeting, i.e. Pizza and Pop?
That's most likely the plan. Bob just didn't get around to announcing it. Bring money and/or snacks, I guess.

Hmmm...It seems to me that if that sort of thing hasn't been formally announced, it is not likely to happen.
I see now that Bob posted an announcement earlier on the main page. So it's happening.
I can't get to the main page from this Forum, so here is a Link, for anyone else, who might want to check the main page, out. :-)

In the Future, it might be a nice thing if these announcements were made both on the front page and in the forum.
