Title: Anyone interested in resuming an evening meetup, at Tim Hortons parking lot?
Post by: ssfc72 on June 10, 2021, 07:29:23 PM
So now that the stay at home order is no longer in effect, I am thinking maybe there might be an interest in meeting up again at the parking lot of the Tim Hortons on Monaghan rd.
We used to meetup, before the COVID problem and just have a general chat, for about an hour or so.

So if there is interest in starting a meetup again, now that we have nice summer evening,  post here and suggest what weekday evening would be good for you.

I'd be cool with that socially distanced, of course. But is there a better place to meet? I find it's really noisy there and with the distance, it's especially hard to hear. Do you think they'd mind if we met in the cemetery? :)

Good one Jason. :-)

We actually located are meetup over near the petstore.  It was not as noisy at that location.

I would be interested. Wednesday or Thursday evening would be best for me; definitely not Tuesday.

Ok, how about next Wed. at 8 pm?  The long range forecast shows clear weather, right now.

That sounds good. The Lansdowne Place parking lot near the top end where the construction is/was going on, is quiet, too, since the mall's not open (well, not very open). It's blocked off so there isn't even traffic going in and out there. I've sat on the little stairs among the trees there and read to get out of the heat when walking. If we ever need an alternative it's there until the mall opens fully, of course. Then it might be noisy.

Looks like it may just be the three of us, showing up.
Maybe I could bring my pico projector and RPI 4 and we could watch the movie,  The Lady Killers (from 1955) . :-)

Sorry Bill but I'm not going to come if we're watching a movie, no matter how good. And Mike, I counted 4 people - the same 4 people who, along with Glen, actually keep the forum alive.

It was Bill that said three, not Mike. And four is better than zero, Mr. Half Empty. Personally, I'd feel uncomfortable with a larger group right now though I'd certainly wish more people would participate in the Forum.

i was trying to entice some more people to join in on the meetup. :-)

Yes, 8 pm, near the Petsmart parking lot.  I will probably be there about 20 minutes before 8 pm.
I may ride my motorcycle into Peterborough.

Why did the traditional 7:00 time get pushed an hour later? Sometimes I climb into bed before 10. Depends on other things of course.

I didn't recall that we use to meet up at 7 pm.  I just was going by our video group meetup time of around 7:30 to 8 pm.
The next parking lot meetup can be at 7 pm.

That was most pleasant, gentlemen. I hope we do it again soon and that more members attend. I don't think we have to worry about the number that shows since the group limitation is about equal to the number of members (or members we had in April 2020 more accurately). But if we go over, Bill's the organizer! ;-)

Yes, it was great to see you guys.  I didn't expect the meetup to last past sundown and I wasn't dressed warmly enough.

hopefully will will get back to the hot summer evenings that we had a week ago and have another evening meetup.

Old, wise Harry, being smarter than your average elevator, wore a fleece, a winter down jacket and a hat. A pleasant evening. Some of that could have been because of the pot smokers who were near us, and their smoke ended up going through our group. I tried to take a deep breath and hold it to avoid the smoke, but I couldn't seem to get my timing right. And my timing apparently got worse as the evening went on.

It would be good to have a few more at the ClubMugs. Some will of course be coming to the PlugMugs, but it doesn't matter. We all sit together.

And I might add that we talk quite series matters, not just arguing about the best lady's bum that walked by tonight. Jason and I had an interesting discussing (definitely not an argument) about drug addiction. He leaned towards the idea that underlying problems, once solved, might help the person avoid the trap of drugs, and I leaned towards the idea that some drugs make a person feels so good, that the effect draws the person in.

I'm mentioning this because Marilyn and I sat in our yard with sun, blue skies, tall trees and a bottle of Australian red wine, and the feeling from the alcohol was blissful. It makes the universe feel like a wonderful place. Fortunately I have never slipped into alcoholism, but I understand the danger. If someone had pain in his or her life, it would be an answer. And other drugs would be even more deadly.

Lucky you! I'm scheduled for August 30 and even with the accelerated second doses, I can't even book an earlier appointment until August 2! Not that I'm complaining... much. :)

Correction: I just read they've re-accelerated the accelerated doses so I'll be able to book mine starting June 28!

Australian red wine. I would imagine the percent alcohol content is quite high? :-)

Where'd you pull that from, Buster? I know it was on the website or an announcement once but we haven't done that for a long time. MUGs have happened at all different times. Mondays, Thursdays, on the weekend, on evenings, afternoons and so on. The Monday at 7 pm meeting time hasn't been a thing even long before the pandemic. I just looked back two years and there weren't any Monday dates. Nobody was showing up to them but Bill, Mike and I pre-pandemic.  And they were usually held on weekend afternoons.

I have no problem with 7 pm though. But aren't you having dinner around then?

Cold weather doesn't cause colds but I'll try not to be combative. :) Let us know how much you suffered? The second shot is supposed to be a doozy from what I've heard.

"  The second shot is supposed to be a doozy from what I've heard. "

Now this was told to me in private, so please do not spread this. Just after I got my shot, my nurse Julia leaned forward a bit and said, " Every one loves the second shot. " I was feeling good already and noticed for the first time that Julia had a bit of cleavage showing. Hadn't noticed that before. So I asked why people enjoyed the second one so much, trying to look at her eyes rather than down.

" That's because they are all laced with a touch of morphine. "

And I got a bigger than usual grin on my face. " OK by me. "

Now remember, don't spread this. And I did get home safely.

I got my shot yesterday. On the first shot I had chills on days 2 and 3. This is now 28 hours since my 2nd shot. My arm hurt slightly last night; now that is almost gone. No other effects are evident. I guess I got morphine with mine, too.  :)

I had some chills with the first shot but it was the arm that really hurt, for about 3 days. It's funny because for the first 4 hours after I got the shot it was fine, couldn't even find where they had given the shot by touch. Then, omg, the pain, "boss, the paaaaaain". I had Moderna. We should have a topic where everyone can post which vaccines they got and their side effects. :D

Buster: I hope I get Julia next time.

My wife got Moderna for both shots. She had "Covid arm" starting 8 days after the first shot, but almost no symptoms after the second, and it has been 11 days.

The updated public health measures in step 1 now state we can have outdoor gatherings with up to 10 people (https://www.peterboroughpublichealth.ca/novel-coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-framework-response/?highlight=framework#organized) as long as we're physically distanced.

This meeting already happened, Brian, and we had it on a Wednesday but we should have another in a couple of weeks if there's sufficient interest.

My first COVID vaccine shot was Moderna.  I did not have any soreness in the arm right after the shot but by that night I did have a slight soreness right at the spot where the needle was given.  The soreness lasted for about 2 days.
I will let you know after this Monday about about my second shot, since I get the jab on Monday. :-)

First shot - no effects.
Second shot - minor soreness that evening and early next morning. Nothing really noticeable.

This actually bothered me a bit, that I had no reaction. I would have thought that my body should have jumped to the threat entering my arm, and fought valiantly, leaving death and pain on the battlefield.

Maybe my system is so efficient the battle was over in a matter of seconds. I rather suspect my body was staring around in a confused manner saying, "Isn't there something I should be doing now? Nothing detected on the radar though."

It's bothered me when I had the flu shot for the same reason. But I've seen videos and articles from reliable sources that explain it's nothing to be concerned about. However, they didn't explain why. My hypothesis is that you've been exposed to the virus already at some point and your system fought it off or you had and didn't notice because you were asymptomatic. Evidently in New York City, 10% of the population had it or had built immunity to it. I don't remember which. They don't even know why some people get it and have no symptoms, some have symptoms and some almost die from it. Comorbidities are involved in many of the severe cases but in some, they had none and still ended up in the ICU or on a ventilator.

I'm guessing you refer to " Penguinos " which is the Italian brand of portable air conditioner. Given the temps N. Peterboro is experiencing that surely must be what you meant. It's quite fashionable to have a touch of dementia these days. It reflects character and one makes " new " friends every day !

Kalabaster, where have you been all these dreary months? We need more people who are aware of the absurdities of the universe, rather than those who give us 9 lines of code that will upgrade a Linux system that doesn't need upgrading.

And the penguins are quite real, as you know. When you pick up penguin poop from your lawn, it's difficult to dispute the fact that they wander the north end of Peterborough daily. Ah, but I have to leave to get to my meeting.

Bloody penguins are annoying but they are the Linux mascot so you should keep just one as a pet and bring it to future meetings.
