Title: Android app update causes System UI to crash - workaround
Post by: Jason on January 25, 2017, 09:05:59 AM
Bob, you mind find this interesting.

After resetting my phone and then installing app updates, I discovered that one that causes the bug we're both experiencing. It might not be the only app update as I'm installing the one at a time, but it is the likely culprit.

It's the Google app update. It's just called Google in the store but it's the update for the search engine. It is version 6.10.37.16.arm released January 20, 2017.

As soon as I remove that update, the System UI crash bug disappears. I'm hoping it will work for you, too. The annoying thing (at least for me) is that it means you can't use Auto-Update of apps until/if they fix this. There is no option that I can see of blacklisting this update.

My phone, the Galaxy Note uses Jellybean. Is that the same for you Galaxy Note 2?

It did work, thanks, last night! And my Note 2 is KitKat, but I'm not sure what Rachelle's is, I'll have to check. She did have the same bug, though, and it fixed it exactly the same way, so double thanks! <^8#

It may be time for one (or more) of us to start looking for a Cyanogenmod image for our phones...!! How easy was it for Google(/Samsung) to make it look like our phones were 'WAY obsolete - TIME TO BUY NEW ONES!! <^8#

Sometimes I *really* hate technology...

No cyanogen image for my particular phone. I checked and even accidentally installed the wong image once.

cyanogen has closed it's doors, as of the end of 2016, apparently.  Looks like there won't be anymore updates, coming from them. :-(

Apparently this bug was fixed in a more recent update. I applied it and no more hang and then crash on System UI. Try it now, Bob.

Yeah, I saw what appeared to be a new update on the 15th, but *I* wasn't gonna try it... Get Mikey! He likes everything! <^8# (Really old TV commercial - do you remember what the product was?!)

I remembered it was a cereal, probably something healthy-ish. Had to google it to find out what kind.

Ditto. And I do buy that cereal now, so it has staying power like Cheerios.
