Title: Get $20 from a Li-Ion class action
Post by: Jason on November 09, 2021, 11:49:50 AM
A bunch of law firms reached a settlement with some Lithium-Ion battery manufacturers for price-fixing. Even without a receipt, you can get $20 for having purchased certain devices with that type of battery or a battery alone. Most portable devices nowadays and then used Li-Ion batteries, including cellphones and laptops. It's an easy $20.

Fill out the form here (https://www.batteriessettlement.ca/?utm_source=fb&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=2%20-%20Prospecting%20%7C%20CA%20%7C%20Conv.%20%7C%20HV%2FLC%20%7C%20Lithium%20Ion%20Batteries%20Class%20Action%20-%20ENGLISH&utm_term=CA%20%7C%20Demo%20%7C%2030%2B%20%7C%20EN%20%7C%20All%20%7C%20Conv.%20%7C%207C1V%20%7C%20Auto%20%7C&utm_content=Single%20Image%20%7C%20Lithium%20Ion%20Batteries%20Class%20Action%20%7C%20Problem%20Solution%20%7C%20Learn%20More%20%7C%20V08.16A%20%7C%20-%20Copy%203&site_source_name=fb&placement=Facebook_Desktop_Feed&campaign_id=6217940878679&adset_id=6217941161279&ad_id=6218050296279&fb_ad_id=%7B%7Bad.id%7D&ctsp=yxz).

Looks like phishing scam to me.  They get your name, address, phone, and email, all of which are automatically verified to be real when you deposit their eTransfer.

You should know me better than think I'd fall for a phishing scam. :)

And you don't get all that information from an eTransfer not to mention there's a $5 minimum to send one! That'd be an expensive scam!

Thanks Jason for the tip about the class action for lithium batteries. I thought maybe I had already applied for the class action but I could not find any email about it, so I applied again, anyways.

I am still waiting on my class action payment for the Microsoft OS class action lawsuit.

I don't think I've heard about that one. I applied for the Yahoo one, too, and haven't heard back.

They're paying out. I haven't received it yet but I see no reason for them to lie to me. Easy $20. :) If you hadn't already applied to be in it, it's too late, though. I just wanted to show you guys that it was legit.

QuoteYour $20.00 Undocumented Claim in the Canadian Lithium Ion Batteries class action is approved.  This is an advance notification that your payment will be issued via Interac e-Transfer very shortly.  If you do not have auto deposit set up with your financial institution, you will require a security answer to complete the Interac e-Transfer transaction.

I applied for the class action payout but so far I  haven't had any email about a cheque being sent to me. :-(

Stupid question but did you check all your email addresses and spam folders? I don't believe they're sending it via check, eTransfer only. The email address you signed up for has to match your bank email address, too. Strangely, despite the email I got, I haven't received it yet but I think I know why. I'm sending them an email to find out what's going on.

Oh, I checked again and I see they did have the choice of cheque or eTransfer. Since I didn't get the email until March 31st, maybe they just hadn't sent it out right away. I know mailing something across Peterborough can take a week. I have no idea where this cheque is coming from!

I sent them an email with the claim number that they provided in an email to me.
I asked for an update on the payment of my Claim.
It will cost $2 if you want payment by cheque, according to the webpage.

They might have sent the money to me by mistake Bill, but it arrived in the oddest way. I was raking some leaves off a garden in the back, and there was a twenty dollar bill!

Weird eh?

Buster, I wonder if last fall, when you racked the leaves from your lawn, if there might have been more $20 bills that you didn't notice.  ;)

If you find more than one $20 bill, you have to enter the total amount you found on line 324 of your income tax form, and found twenties are highly taxed. I'm happy with just one. I was taught not to be a greedy person.

I received my $20 via eTransfer on Friday. :) If only there were enough of these class actions to live on. One time to love lawyers! :)

I got my $20 through an etransfer to my bank.  My first attempt at doing an etransfer deposit, resulted in my being locked out of my bank account. Took me half a day, to get that fixed. :-(

Can you elaborate?  So that we can avoid your mistake. :-)

Well. I am not sure what the problem was. It may have been a problem with the EQ Bank website.

The email from the battery settlement people had a Link/icon to click on, to start the etransfer. The brings up a page where you click on your Bank name. The EQ Bank was not among the major banks so I had to click on the "other" banks.  This caused the Brave browser to go into it's "waiting" mode, were the browser keeps throwing up a "page unresponsive" menu, which requires you to "wait" or cancel". After numerous times of waiting, I finally get to the EQ Bank login page.

I then put in my login credentials and the EQ login page rejects my login. I do the login again and get a 2nd rejection.

I then go to the firefox browser and it also results in a rejection of my login credentials. That's when I got locked out of my EQ account.

From the EQ lockout instructions I get a passcode emailed to me.  I enter the passcode from the email and the passcode is rejected.

I try to get another passcode  emailed to me by EQ and no email shows up. That's when I gave up, because I figured EQ must be having some "technical" issues.

The next morning I try and phone the bank but as usual, you get put on hold. After waiting a bit, I hang up.
I phoned again in the afternoon and get a person after a brief wait.
He asks me a lot of questions to try  and verify who I am. After quite awhile I finally get my account unlocked.

I then used, I believe, Firefox to login to my EQ account and I believe I found the etransfer ready for deposit, once I put in the security number that was in my email from the battery settlement people.

I normally use the Brave browser to login to the EQ bank, and I have no problems.

That is very strange. Was the link so that you could enter the security question? You can register for auto-deposit and then you'll just get the funds with no hassle. That's how I do it. But I've never heard of EQ Bank before so maybe it was an issue specific to them.

Any etransfer email would be from Interac.ca, and the format would be the same no matter who sent the money.  Interac seems to remember my main bank for deposit (TD) and have that as the "primary" button.  If I want to deposit to other bank, then I have to click "others" and go through more lengthy clicks.  But, yeah, could be EQ glitch.

I never used "auto-deposit".  How do you move money between banks, then?  Do they allow you to turn of "auto-deposit" when you send money to yourself?  Or, do you have to send it to your other email address?

It's auto-deposit for eTransfer. So you can skip having to respond to a security question. You can't turn it on and off based on the person sending it. You have to register for it and it should be located in the eTransfer section of your banking app or website. The sender, whether you or someone else, still has to provide the email address or phone number of the receiver. When you enter an email or phone number when sending an eTransfer, the bank checks to see if they're registered and if so, you're not prompted for a security question and answer that they must normally use to receive funds.

You can de-register anytime you like. I've never had a problem with somebody, anybody giving me money, no matter how much or how little, so I registered mine. So if you want to send me money, William, my email is.... :)

In case it matters, I should point out that while I have two banks I deal with, they are both assigned different email addresses. So where I use eTransfer to move funds between them, I just use the email address (or really my name in the recipient list since it's saved) associated with the other bank and away it goes since they both are registered for auto-deposit with eTransfer.

Another question is, what if you sent to wrong email?  And, that wrong email happens to have "auto-deposit" registered.  You won't get that money back, you know. :-)

Correct. So don't send it to the wrong email address. Watch for typos. I've probably done dozens of e-Transfers now. Never once have I lost money or had a problem. I don't know about other banks but with my bank, regular transfers let you associate an email address with a title like "William." Then I just use the title so no worry about typos after you get it right the first time.
