The name in the link sounded very familiar to me and then I remembered, he and Dennis Ritchie wrote the first book on the C programming language, "The C Programming Language", often referred to as just the K & C book. I thought both they both created the language but Kernighan says that it was "entirely Dennis Ritchie's work". C was the first language I learned after BASIC and assembly.

Of course, what's likely more important to our group is that he was involved, along with Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson, in creating Unix. Linux was designed to be a clone of Unix without the licensing fees.
