New application that will run MacOSX applications on Linux

Read about it here. The program, called Darling, is similar to Wine, but much less mature at the moment. But it looks to hold a lot of promise. What it could mean to me is the ability to run MS Office 2019 for the Mac instead of Office 2010 for the PC, which is the only version that runs reliably under Wine. But right now, Darling is still mainly a command line application.

Curious. Based on the article it looks like something complex like Office for the Mac isn't going to work anytime soon. It took a long time for WINE to mature to where it is now. The ability to run many critical Windows programs in Linux came out because of contributions from Crossover, a commercial company.  Perhaps another commercial company will sell a product that is similar in goals, unless there already is one. You'd know better than any of us, Fox, aside from many Scott.

I don't know if running command-line operations from the Mac under Linux is that big of a deal but I admit I don't understand the particulars. Darwin is based on one of the BSD projects and Scott mentioned to me that many Linux terminal programs are available in BSD form or will run under it. Is Darwin the graphical layer of Mac OS or it just the underlying customised BSD structure? I thought it was the latter.

The article mentions that it can run some basic GUI applications but fails to mention any of them. So I wonder what can run. It'll still be interesting to if/when when useful GUI applications can be operated under it. It's probably as close as I'll ever got to a Mac! :)

I won't be trying it anytime soon, but I thought this was a noteworthy Linux development. I will try it when it matures enough to run the type of applications I use on a Mac (when I use MacOSX, which isn't that often anymore).
