Only 5.25. That seems old. I looked it up and version 6 was released in February of last year. Are you using an older version of Linux Mint than 20? I would expect that for this program LM is using the same repos that I am, otherwise (I'm using Kubuntu 20.04).

So, have you given up on the automatic updates?

I opened clamtk again and checked in /var/lib/clamav and one of the signature files was updated, the one called daily.cld so I presume it did it when I opened it.

Found this page showing what was changed from 5.27 to 6.03. It's not a lot but it doesn't mention that there was a bug fix affecting manual updates.

The other thing I'm wondering is if the scheduled checks occurs while the program isn't running. I think not, but I don't know. I can't find the log file now. It was in ~/.clamtk/db before but nothing is there now after a re-install.

I would expect so but I was asking about automatic updates for ClamTk. They seem to work fine for me. Every time I restart it, it gets the most recent signatures even though there isn't any feedback to tell me this. I only realized this by checking the signatures timestamps.

LM 19.3 is based on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS, if I'm not mistaken, which would explain the older version of ClamTk. I doubt that matters except that we have a slightly different interface.

Regardless, I'm not that impressed with ClamTk for the reasons you and I have mentioned already. Additionally, I discovered that the scheduled scans only work if you have the program running at the time it's supposed to happen.

I am fine with just doing the antivirus signatures Updates, manually.  I will just, very occasionally run ClamTK, to check for any virus issues and I would naturally do a manual Update of the antivrus signatures, at that time.
