December 2015 PLUG Meeting: Android X86

Remember that PLUG now meets on the FIRST MONDAY of each month. For this meeting only, we will be meeting upstairs in the library. It's on the second floor (the floor above where we usually meet).

Bill Hopkins will show a demo of Android X86 as booted from a USB Flash drive. Android X86 is a version of the mobile operating system (based on Linux) that has been ported to run on PCs.

In the event that the weather is bad and Bill can't make it, or there is time, Jason Wallwork will present an introduction to the Java programming language.

Being December, this is also our Christmas party meeting. There will be pizza, cookies, pop, egg-nog and coffee. No charge for memmbers although donations are gratefully accepted. If you're not a member, $5 or pay what you can. Or bring along your own snack to share. We'll do the presentation or two (no more than an hour) and then we will break for food.

Date: Monday, December 7, 2015 - 7 PM

We have a Linux magazine swap at each meeting. Bring your recently-read Linux magazines to trade with other members. And we have a draw for an e-book of the winner's choice. Members get double the entries.

Location: Applewood Manor
1500 Lansdowne Street West, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
Parking is on the east (right) side. Entrance is at the front of the building. From the front, go down the hall to the right, and enter the last door on the left.

After the meeting, everyone is invited to Tim Horton's on MONAGHAN ROAD (just a stone's throw north of Lansdowne). They have free wireless in addition to their tasty doughnuts and coffee.

Hope you can make it!

Note: PLUG MUG nights continue every MONDAY night except the week of a regular PLUG meeting (as long as there is interest). Please check the forums for the weekly sign-up list.

November PLUG Meeting: SCRATCH

Remember that PLUG now meets on the FIRST MONDAY of each month. Same location, same time.

Jason Wallwork will provide an introduction to Scratch, a visual programming language. Scratch was developed primarily to introduce K-12 students to the art of programming. However, it provides a low-barrier pathway for anyone interested in learning programming concepts. Jason will show you the basics.

September 2015 PLUG Meeting - THIS Monday

Welcome to the new season of PLUG meetings! Our first meeting of the Fall will feature three presentations about distros that perform well on older computers. For those that aren't eligible for the Windows 10 upgrade because they have a machine still running Vista, any of these distros would be a good replacement. Or even if you just want to get away from Windows altogether. Tell your friends about it.

Jason Wallwork will be presenting PCLinuxOS LXDE Desktop, Michael Fox will be showing off Crunchbang Plus Plus and Bill Hopkins will do a live install of Lubuntu.

PLUG is on Summer Break

PLUG is on summer hiatus. Monthly meetings will resume Monday, September 14, 2015. We hope everybody can drop by one of the weekly MUGs that will continue on throughout the summer. Each MONDAY evening beginning at about 7 pm, everyone is welcome to hang out with other PLUGgers at Tim Hortons at Monaghan and Lansdowne Road. We call these nights PLUG MUGs. There is Free wireless Internet and no agenda; just friends hanging out, and talking about everything from Linux to X-rays. For more information on those, keep a watch in the Forums and please let us know if you're coming thought it's not strictly required.

Also, I'd love your suggestions on upcoming meetings and even whether you liked having coffee at the meeting. Is this something we should do every month? Let me know here:
