You all are probably already familiar with System76, but just in case, thought I'd drop this here and maybe get some thoughts on it. I think the Meerkat desktop is about as far as you can physically go and still have access to all the attachments we like.
The drawback, especially for laptops, is adding particulars you might like get outrageously expensive.

If I remember correctly, you can open a Meerkat and upgrade internal components. It almost never pays to upgrade the components through the seller, unless they are soldered in.

Mac user running Ubuntu 16.04 (Unity, Gnome) on Dell XPS 13 (4gb RAM, 250gb SSD)
Ubuntu 16.04, Chromixium, Remix OS and Crunchbang++ on upgraded 11.6" Acer 1810TZ Olympic Edition (4gb RAM, 240 SSD)
Ubuntu 16.04 on Mac mini, iMac & Dell 7020

I had heard of them but it's nice to be reminded. I didn't know they had put out a little PC desktop box. If I had the money, I'd definitely go with one of them.
